Getting the Wheeling Fever
someone tell me i can put the ball joints without taking anything else off....my first thought is if i take off the three bolts,,i might not have to take anything else off.... i am trying to work up my nerve to do this....need the sporty every day so hoping to get it done in one afternoon...

will it be all right to drive 150 miles before alignment .

You should be able to do it without taking the whole thing apart, you'll probably end up having to break the 3 bolts off, but that's not a big deal since the new one should come with new bolts. I used a nut splitter to get the big nut off instead of busting my knuckles trying to loosen it, since you also replace it anyway. Did mine in a couple hours (at the most) still haven't gotten it aligned and it's driving fine.

I have four bolts in the bottom. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> And on one ball joint, they all broke. But like said, came with all new. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

i bought a set of cheapy nut splitters years ago,,,never once worked....wondering what kind you have...i mostly use a dremmel and cut them off..i have thought of making a neck chain of cut off nuts........ i am waiting for my mechanic buddy to get over his cold..it appears that i will have to loosen the steering box,to get the frame bolt out on that side....

When I did mine I thought that very same thing...but when I managed to cut the back one out the front one did maneuver around that bolt to the steering box.

got er done..........we did have to take the steering box bolts out to get the bolt out and new one in..they only came with the pinch bolt//we had a heck of atime getting the pinch bolt out...finally turned the bolt with the air hammer and hitting the bolt.......the holes in the frame brackets are slotted, must be for alignment we just guessed for middle...2.5 hours for the steering side and 1 hour for the other. thanks and i wll look at the splitter for sure.
