Long story short, I need front shocks badly. Anyone know if the stock shocks for a gen 1 are any good? I need something to tide me over till I can really get the suspension sorted out properly and unless I order from the states monroe is my only other option... GAK !

Most here replace with KYB Gas-A-Justs. Someone used Monroes once and got a couple months out of them.

How bad/tough is shipping to you? KYBs are around $40/each last I knew.

I am in the same boat, needing front shocks. I think mine are bilsteins right now, not sure. I have never tried the KYB brand. i did not know if trailmaster or skyjacker shocks were any better or not.

KYBs are cheaper and good. I tried Monroes once on the rear of my gen1 and they lasted 2 days. Through normal driving one started leaking oil and the other was not gas charged anymore. They were brand new. The part number on the box said they were for the Montero, maybe someone put the wrong shocks in the wrong box? I did not try another set.

I just want to tell you both good luck, and we're all counting on you.

Pro comp ES 6000 from flea bay. Just put them on a little while ago but they seam to be OK. I have only done street driving so far. But if cheap is what your looking for there perfect.

KYB or bust for me.

I don't know who made the OEM for Gen 1, but KYB made the adjustable ones on my Gen 2, and they lasted 170,000 miles (nearly 300,000 km).

If your only true choice is between OEM and Monroe, go OEM all the way! Monroes suck hard for the Montero.

I know a guy with import export contacts in the Carribean and South America. If you decide on which brand you want, I can facilitate getting them to you. PM me to discuss details. HTH <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />
