the problem is trying to actually get ahold of any of the so called sportage aftermarket gears!

True on trying to get the aftermarket gears. This article is good for reference on gearing, it is dated and the only place I've heard for gears is out of KOREA. Don't know if the place is still in business. However, LSD's for those units listed other than Sportage may work in the front of a Sporty. Maybe someone will have better luck getting info on the gears. Wouldn't mind a set of lower gears. I pulled the front and rear dif out of a wrecked Sportage the other day (1/2 price Wednesdays), I'm going to install my LSD in the rear so when I'm ready to put it in the Kia it will be a 1/2 hour job. If I can't find a good affordable LSD for the front I might Miller (Lincon) lock my original dif and leave the other one open. I can change out the 3rd member before I plan a wheelin trip. Most of the LSDs that come out of the RX7, Miata and S2000 need a lot of wheel speed to lock up and will not lock up with a tire off the ground so do your research before any of you buy one.

Dennis Depends on the type of LSD. Clutch types may well need an extra shim or two fitted to the pack to increase the preload. (normally RX-7's). (This is also done routinely with Toyota and Nissan diffs out here for the same reason) Torsen (S2000/Miata) will lock at low speeds with only a light application of the brakes ("driving through the brakes")

Thats why I said to do your research before you buy one, so you don't get the wrong type. The Ford Ranger FX4 level II used a torsen LSD but I'm sure if it's the same as the Miata, S2000. If they are the same design then thats the type I want in my front.
