well I started to drive my 92 sr today. still cant figure our the crappy running when cold. tested everything and found nothing wrong. all tested good. so if anyone has an idea. to refresh. when cold runs 1700 rpm and drops down to 1200 in a minute. runs and back fires smell raw gas and very rich. stumbles. then drops down to 800 when the temp hits 180. and not before. and runs awsome. dont even feel it idle. but are these really under powered? it is a pooch!!! runs a steady 180. not more not less. its 82 here today. so maybe some of this will jar a memory and will kinda tell ya or get an idea what is wrong... even with the problems Iv got under 600.00 into it and love driving it. so anymore help is appreciated..

many thanks
loren

not sure, but is the Seafoam trick people use here to fix that problem? It just popped into my head, so i don't know if it applies. hope you get it worked out.

ya i got to get some. I already treated the valves to the treatment of seafoam getting sucked through the vac hose. but will get some for the fuel. just now I went out and and it cooled off now and started and it ran at 700-800 rpm. so maybe I just need to drive it more. it has been sitting for 9 months. I went and filled it up and it only took 11.2 gallons. so there is also alot of old gas. but are they under powered? shifted great o/d button worked. just seems to be dragging A$$..... lol

Getting the Wheeling Fever
don't know about the rest of the crew but my 91 3.0 is a super dawg. Just got it a few weeks ago and when i make the 3Kft. climb from Salt lake city up to Park City on I-80, some spots i max out at 58mph when floored and O/D button on. It's a little stressful when the speed limit is 65mph and people are passing you doing 70mph. If i find any power solutions i will let you know. By the way...what part of IL. are you from ? I moved to Utah from the gurnee area up north.

if its been sitting for a long time I would start with a basic tune-up...plugs, wires, air filter, fuel filter...that sort of thing. and just drive it, run a few tanks of gas through it before you start worrying.

ya went out this morning to start. only to find a gas leak. it was running out of the gas gauge sending unit. so it looks like I have to check that out. it also doesent work so I will just get a new one. but anyway. it fired right up and was at 1000rpm. so Im just going to drive and see if it gets better. did the plugs cap rotor and wires look new. the wires ohmed out to be good. cap and rotor looked good also. but going to get a can of seafoan and see how it does. also it had a blown head gasket. I never drove it before so it might have just needed to get hot and run. to get all the crap out. but again are they a pooch???? any upgrades to motor? someone told me to put twin cam heads on it off a 3000. does that work? is that just a bolt on? lol. here goes the money pit!!!!!!

many thanks

They do not have the power to weight ratio as a Ferrari Enzo.

I just want to tell you both good luck, and we're all counting on you.

You need to figure that Mitsubishi put a 160hp? motor in a truck that is well over 2 tons. Which is why they upgraded to a 3.5 DOHC in the later years then went even bigger to a 3.8 as the weight went up. But the truck is made to tow haul kids and offroad. Not gonna be able to dust ricers in its current form. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />

I think OldColt has had the best results with using a 3.8 block 3.5 DOHC heads, and a 3.5 intake. He started with a 3.5 to start with though, so you or me would have to get intake wiring and ECU to make it work, along with a higher flow fuel pump depending on how much more it might require to run right.

the easiest/cheapest would be a 3.5 swap for about 200hp/tq
the hardest/expensive would be a a twin turbo motor swap from a 3000gt

ohh and the heads won't swap
