Getting the Wheeling Fever
After reading the "To rebuild or not to rebuild, that is the question... " post and seeing the images of the clogged water passages in the head, I decided a cooling system flush was in order. I used the Prestone 3 to 6 hour cleaner. I have seen cleaner pond water than the water that I drained out of that engine. Yikes! A completely worthwile thing to do to your 20 plus year old Monty.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
I gave the water jackets a good cleaning when I did my valve job, but I don't think I managed to get into the ports that well. I will heed your advice and tackle this weekend. Thanks.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
Thought I would add a follow up to this post. I took a road trip Saturday to see the folks. About 120 miles away. I saw that the Monty was running cooler. The temp needle sat at halfway or a slightly below that. The last time I was out that way in Febuary I noted that the temp needle was slightly above halfway when exiting the frwy. I had never seen the temp needle north of halfway. That started me thinking about the cooling system maint and possible upgrades.

You'd be well served to do this type flush every 2 years, making sure to use distilled water in your antifreeze/coolant mixture. Good stuff <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

Fasteddy's advice is occasionally sound...
