My Mechanic is just about finished with my Daughter's '88 Raider restoration but we have one nagging problem. The OD relay is burnt out and can't signal the O/D to engage. I have read that one can ground the sensor if that is the problem but what do you do if it's the relay? Is there another source of power that can be substituted to power the O/D solenoid? Does anyone know of an aftermarket relay that can be substituted for the original? I canÆt locate a replacement part.

Are the V6 and 4-cyl OD relays the same? I have the former. Second, have you verified the temp sensor on the intake manifold is operating correctly? This is another common part to fail and leave the Monteros with no OD. BTW, not the temp sensor for the temp gauge.

The stock OD relay has the part # on it... It's a bear to get to. You can get the # off the FSM. I gave the # to the guy @ Auto Zone & had a replacement the next day.

I was able to locate one last night. Thanks again for the advice. Once I get the beast home I would like one of you more experienced owners to drive her and tell me if she is up to par.
