Roll Me Over

Took the wife and kids to see it, in person, earlier today.

About all I can say is wow. Looks so much more intimidating in person. Much, much, much bigger project than the pictures suggest. There's alot of things that he's done that probably could've been done easier, but they wouldn't look as good or function as seemless as they do now. It seriously is looking OE. Still a heap of work left to do, but he's definitely on the downhill side.

Looks great. It was good to talk with you again. I got some inspiration for a few ideas I've been toying with. Again, let me know if there's anything you need.

And Lisa said "thank you!" again for the ivy starts...

And yeah, paint that frickin compressor. It's bringin the whole gig down...

Fasteddy's advice is occasionally sound...

I hope I am not wrong to bring this up to top, but I was wondering if the wiring was tackled yet? I threw out the idea of using the Gen2 trans in my swap because I want to keep the lever rod shifter and speedo gauge wouldn't swap. I would like to see a preview of the wiring I will have to cut out of the Gen2 harness. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

You should be able to do a stand-alone swap of a Gen 2 transmission with its ECM. The wiring going to and from the ECM isn't as complicated as it would seem.

One issue is the mechanical/electrical speedometer interface. An option that I can think of, BUT HAVE NOT VERIFIED, is to use something like an Autometer speedometer sender. It's made to give a pulse output from a transmission that had a mechanical cable output, but still has an output side that you could hook the mechanical speedometer cable up to. It may require some custom speedometer cables to be made, and I don't know if it gives the correct pulse output.

I'm leaving the Gen 1 transmission in my truck for now, and just leaving the Gen 2 transmission wiring disconnected until I'm ready to do that swap. Though, I plan to swap the electronic speedometer sender and the gear indicator switch over in the meantime.

It's not just the speedo that is a concern, but just all the vac lines that I had to remove (along with the idea of switching from lever/rod linkage to cable doesn't sit well with me). The G1 transmission is a nicer unit in my eyes since it only needs the kickdown cable and OD solinoid to make it run like it should. I might keep the G2 trans, but since my LWB trans only has 50k on it. I should be OK and not break it.

Any new pictures since the last update? is it running yet?

Yes, I could see switching to the G2 trans being a bit more difficult without all the supporting G2 wiring...but not impossible. If you still want to go down that road, I'd be more than happy to help you sort out what needs to be done. Also, if you have a G2 shifter, using the cable shift assembly should be pretty easy.

My build has been pretty slow going...this year in general has been a lot busier for me at work, and there seems to have been a steady flow of other vehicular projects to keep me sidetracked...including 2 other monteros.

But, it's odd this thread got bumped today, because I made more progress today than I had in quite a while.

I've got most of the wiring done and am pretty close to connecting a battery, and starting to verify that everything works. One thing I'd been dragging my feet on was the physical mounting of some of the electrical components...fuse box, relays, etc... But now that is done, and I can finalize the routing of the wiring harnesses.

I hope you lubed all the bolts and screws that hold the fuse panels and relays in. The torque is whatever you make it up to be or 38 ft lbs, your choice. I am eating breakfast right now.

So how is this coming along. Blew up my 2.6 so I'm starting mine soon. Careful disassembly of the 94 SR with lots of pics and tags of everything. Can't screw this up!

You are gonna have to let me know how the truck does with cold start.I finished this swap almost a year ago but I still have a cold start issue. I haven't been to worried about trying to totally fix it quite yet because the summer months here in AZ barely gets below 100 degrees even in the night:8. I'm sure it says it somewhere in the post but I can't remember. Did you use the gen 2 dash?

my SR is torn down, and the husk sent to the JY. I would start mine, but I have a Hyundai to rebuild, and then my Raider is smelling bad so that might go 2.6T <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
