87 22re. Trying to pull my throttle body off to relace TPS. Unbolted 4 places... won't budge. I smacked it repeatedly in multiple directions as hard as I dare with a plastic mallet to no avail. Thinking of soaking the mating joint with something...acetone, Kroil, Pepsi..?? Don't see any good pry spots right off either. Anyone been there?

Use a punch and tap towards the front of the motor. It will come off. I tapped at the top on the bell crank side and on the TPS side at the boss for the TPS. Not too hard of a smack. Just a persuasion.

It's been about 6 years, so my memory is fuzzy - but isn't there some hidden bolt that goes through a coolant jacket or something? Doest he FSM posted here show only 4 bolts?
I do remember mine being really stuck on also though.

well... I held my breath and rapped it harder using a piece of hardwood between the BFH and the housing.... it finally popped off. (no hidden bolt...just the 3 bolts and nut on a threaded stud). The gasket is really adhered to the manifold... as if sealer was used but as far as I know it is original. I guess the years under pressure bonded it. No torque spec in the FSM for the bolts. I'm thinking only 9 ft/lbs or so ? Growing up back when aluminum was rare on an engine I always want to overtighten....

That's the famous 6mm allen bolt that drives you nuts if removing the whole intake manifold. Glad ya got it; those old seals can be a bugger sometimes.

who are you calling an old seal ? 9 ft/lbs sound about right for those bolts?

The FSM has a table in one of the Appendices of torque specs for all the fasteners that do not list specific torques. Might check out that table (App. B in my '85 book).
