very little planning on this, but suzi the psychic has a new motor and appears happy and remains registered, and i have a fish window i need to use up......
thinking of heading in from markleevile @ noon thursday and come out monday(mabe thru nevada?).
intend to see a lot of the river.
wondering if others may be in the area?
richard

hwy88 seems open but controlled - probably clear thursday. probably markleville by 2pm. mabe the gas pump will work this time. also need to stop at the museum and county archive.
mabe stay at the markleeville camp and go in fri. morning.
we'll see- gotta get that far first.

way more snow than last may. stuck in the sheltered areas and high meadows. friday and saturday were clear and sunny and even warm.
in the morning you could drive on it.
[Linked Image]
later you can winch thru it.

hey jon-
"fun" is a kinda funny thing. i do enjoy the adventure of it.
friday morning i made a stab at some of the upper river. there were the usual fallen "quakies".
[Linked Image]
i was only able to get into company meadows before i was looking at snowmobile tracks going where i was headed.
i wimped out and turned around.
company meadow(8050')

i spent the rest of the day looking to work into cottonwood canyon ,but let deep snow on leviathan mine rd. and a large tree on loope cyn. chase me to wolf creek for the night.
leviathan mine rd(7750')

tree(6530')

saturday i went to tackle the tree. i later met the guy that made a hole in the tree.

so -
saturday morning i went back to the tree on loope. i felt a little silly, but someone had been there first.
i widened the hole a bit more so i wouldn't snag my top on it and went off to find the guy who broke thru.
[Linked Image]
i found him up near the 310 intersection in haypress flat.
he had worked across some of it and was heading out.
nice guy- we discussed options( i was considering the 306) on getting onto the "dry" side of things. he was just out looking around for a run this coming weekend(i think).
anyway, he headed back down the way and i figured i'd see how far i could get. didn't get quite as far as he did before i started winching myself back out.
[Linked Image]
i came up the lower end of 190b to the 306 and met up with my trail buddy. again he was on the way out, but assured me things were dryer this way(also offered to call home for me when he got out to report i was still alive).
i had tried to climb the hill some years before without success, but was able to make it this time. the rest of the run was uneventful and pleasant.
met several people at the springs who had come in from nevada. rafters were running the river and stopping for a soak or camping nearby. the river was higher than i ever remember this time.
this nice looking rig was on the n side. it had been soaked up to the dash.
[Linked Image]
not sure how it got out of the river- i'm sure it doesn't run- and the owner was gone.
i had already decided i wasn't crossing.
fishing was good, but catching was bad.
stayed 'till monday, then followed the river into nevada.
[Linked Image]
snowed on hwy88 and rain further down. got home after midnight.
interesting trip, i knew it was a little early, but had to go see for myself. next month will be prime.

I'm gonna have to make it out with you. That story was GREAT! I don't have any waders and know nothing about them, so I'll have to hit you up for gear recommendations before I can get there. That said, you'll have a lot of teaching to do! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Thanks for filling me in, Richard!
