According to the local Toyota dealer, '83 to March '89 trucks use the same windshield. Anyone know if there's a "windshield gasket" similar to the one used on the back window that can be used to replace the trim? I want to rid myself of the windshield trim pieces and achieve a cleaner look more reminiscent of the newer vehicles. I've looked through the archives and seen this question asked before, but no answers. Geez, hope I'm clear enough on what I'm looking for......

Not that I've ever seen. Better folks to ask might be a professional glass or body shop if there's anyone in your area.
Seemed to me someone fudged a window fix with some bondo or JBWeld.
Do bear in mind this is a safety item, so that's your other consideration in your quest.

Kewlynx, yep I know that windshield mounting is definitely a safety issue and it also helps structurally as well. I haven't researched newer vehicles to see if car manufacturers are utilizing a one piece gasket/trim combo setup. 4Crawler, I looked at your solution and had considered doing that. Looks pretty darn good! Then you posted the link to the Yotatech thread!! As I read through it, one guy found a Toyota weatherstrip used in Japanese Hilux minipickup from 1984 to 1988. He says it's a perfect fit. The Toyota p/n is 56121-89117. Here's a link to an Aussie site that has it for about $45 + $9 shipping: http://www.4x4world.com.au/shopping/product_details.modal.php?id=1265556&product_id=5996I'm gonna check on this tomorrow at the Toyota dealer just to be sure. I'd probably go with the butyl rubber along with the gasket, but I'm gonna let the glass shop make the call on that one. Thanks for the info guys!

Make that $45 for shipping to the US! I've had no luck going through Toyota Corporate US. I thought that maybe Toyota in Japan might be able to ship one or more of these seals. My Toyota parts guy, who passed away last year, had gotten several parts for me before from Japan. Now without his resources and wealth of knowledge, this seems impossible. I miss ya Larry! Rest in peace brother!!

They do make a rubber trim that takes the place of the S.S. trim pieces. They used it on mine after I replaced the top on my rig. It pushes into the gap that is left from the S.S. trim. I had my windshield replace at a lass shop at the local P-N-P. Any glass shop should have it. ![[Linked Image]](http://pics.montypics.com/oops/2010-07-27/1280263077_rubber_windsheld_trim.jpg)
