Getting the Wheeling Fever
for those of you following my earlier post and inputting, i trully thank you. White flag of surrender. She still wont fire up. No help from local mitsu dealers claiming they dont have the obd1 and a 91 must be diagnosed thru their 150.00 diag fee. My ECu checked out via the volt meter test. I printed the no start check list from mitsu links and it is mostly electronics for diagnosing. unfortunately, I'm a little slow and cannot comprehend the testing procedures (only got a 15 on my ACT). I try hard though and rarley give up. It's been a week now and my friend cant let me keep it in his driveway any longer so i will have to put her up for sale. If anyone in Utah or surronding states are interested you can email me for more information. The prior owner kept all the paperwork and he spent alot on maintenance. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

Did you get you get it for cheap whereby you won't take too big a hit to part with it? If not, maybe spend the $150 to find out what they say and then people here will help you with the getting the repairs done.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
I wont' give up ! Just needed a day to get my fustrations out. Found a nice owner of a shop that did some basic diags for free. He had me put some fuel in the intake to rule out fuel delivery problems. It passed. Then he did some electical checking and was convinced it was my distributor. (my coil pack got very hot while trying to start it ??). He said the distributor was a complex all in one type and a reman unit would cost 400.00. No cash for that so i wen't to the scrap yard pulled one from an identicle 91'. Rattsssss, still no start. He said my crank position sensor was built into the distributor....is this true ? Any other helpful troubleshooting ideas ? Thanks ! Chris

I spent $60 for a new optical pickup for my Raiders 3.0 that had the same issue. You do have to tear apart your distributor to replace it, but its pretty simple.

If your coil pack is getting hot without the engine running. that makes me think you have an internal failure in the coil causing it to heat up.

Thanks Stock Raider. Maybe the distributor i pulled from the scrap yard was bad also. There is 90' monty at the yard so i will pull that one today and return the one previously bought. I will pull a coil as well and im thinking i should pull an ingnition switch also. I will report back.

I blew through 3 distributors from junkyards and other sources and they all had bad optical pickups. I have a feeling that most of those near mint rigs end up in the JY because it can be so frustrating for both DIYers and smaller time shops.

Yikes, it could be. Cause i yanked another one today and an ignition coil but no start. I dropped it off to the shop mentioned earlier to have him run further diagnostics. Let ya know what happens. I just hope it's not that cause even the reman distributor is very expensive.
