Guys, There's a lot of crap on the market these days boasting better gas mileage, but I have modded my truck and have improved my mileage by about 2 mpg. I've always noticed that my hood flutters (yes, I've siliconed the support ribs) when I meet a semi going the other direction. I've also always noticed that the front end seemed to sit higher than the back. I started lowering my front end a couple of months ago by loosening the torsion adjuster bolts about four turns at a time. In total, I've dropped the front about 2 to 3 inches. I always reset my trip meter when I fill up and calculate my MPG. The last five or six fill ups have shown very close to 20 mpg. I check my tire pressure monthly as well and usually run 32 front and 30 rear unless I'm hauling something. The truck doesn't look as tough, but it really has made a difference. It's even taken away the flutter I see when I pass a big truck so I know it's made a difference in wind resistance. Just thought I'd share. Let me know if any of try it and how it works out for you. My truck was sitting lower in the front so while back, I cranked the torsion bars to raise the front end a little. Only raised it about 1.5-2 inches to bring the truck a little more level. Looked better and I didn't notice a change in the gas mileage. I track each and every tank of gas to see what the mileage is so I'm not just guessing as to my gas mileage...like many people do.
I recently drove my truck about 450 miles...there and back. The roads were rolling hills and I kept the speed at or under 70mph. Some stop and go through a handful of small towns but mostly highway driving. I got 20 mpg.
My truck will get 20 mpg on the open road as long as I keep it 70 mph and under. Over 70 mph, the mileage drops off a bit to around 17-18. With my normal driving...a mix of highway and city driving...I get about 17 mpg. In the winter time (more idling and some 4x4 usage) I see around 15-16 mpg on normal day to day use.
