Hey guys just wondering and thinking about doing just an efi swap. i think some aus galants have a 2.6 with EFI? i don't want to turbo so don't pressure me into doing it lol. lets get to talking. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/patriot.gif" alt="" />

Currently, with the amount of vehicles and parts in the local yards, you'd be better off doing a 3.0 V6 conversion then playing around with a g54b MPI/EFI non-turbo conversion.
With the sic deals and amount of 6g72 vehicles out there, it's pretty much bolt in... just take your time. There was a local 4dr that was wrecked here, guy wanted $500 but it was a 5sp and I needed an auto for my conversion <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cyclops.gif" alt="" />
It was a total to him so he was getting rid of it.
The deals are out there and the 3.0 is a sweet setup.

I posted a thread recently asking about this. For me, I just had the 2.6 rebuilt, so i don't to waste that money on an engine swap.

I have two 2.6 engines one that is basically only good for the block and the manifolds. and another that runs but is waiting on a radiator and a water pump for good measure. i would just like some info on parts and what needs to be done(or if anyone has had this done) thanks guys Justus

swapping in a v6 is not a reall hard swap but it is very labor intensive and a lot of things on the body need to be fabbed up to make it all work correctly. If you are interested in doing this swap PM ClayTK and ask him what's involved before you commit. The easiest EFI swaps for a 2.6 powered truck are going to be 6 bolt 2.4 and 2.0 engines they are a direct bolt on and the wiring is super simple basically plug it all in and tie it back. These engines are more reliable than the 2.6 and have huge aftermarket support, even in stock form will have plenty of power to move the montero. The 2.4 and 2.0 are the perfect NA engines to replace your 2.6 because they are inexpensive and very common so all you need to look for is the 6 bolt (early models) and in the case of 2.0 it has to be a wide block and your set.

If your trying not to spend that much might want to see if you can get a Stock ecu from a magna car and run that. as well as stock injectors. putting a mpi on the 2.6 is not cheap.
Mod the intake. Injectors New fuel pump cant use the carb one New fuel filter New ECU and all sensors and tune it as well
1997 Montero LS with a motor swap a 1990 V6 12valve ported heads full 2.5in Ex I run stock tire size for Daily use, off road have 33x12.5 working on going trubo.

The Oz car with the efi 2.6 is the Magna, a fwd car. The TB will be on the firewall end in a rwd application, and must be relocated to the other end of the plenum, doable with a lot of tig welder help. Water circulation is different on the magna head, as are the water ports. Where the rwd 2.6 has a small slot into the heat water jacket between intake runners for #3 and 4, the Magna head has a large opening like the tstat opening on the front of the rwd head, AND has the large rwd front opening as well. Mods will be necessary here too, to convert the front opening housing to a tstat housing instead of just for sensors, and to partially plug the 3/4 opening by welding up the big intake opening and slotting it for the rwd head opening that feeds the heater.
There are at least 3 different models of magna's (at least one of which is carbed I think), and the last model with the 2.6 had much larger combustion chambers with larger valves, and will have unacceptably low compression ration with rwd carby pistons. You have to source the first MPFI version, and might also want to find that head to avoid some of the cooling system mods required above.
Wiring up the magna ecu should be no worse than wiring up the starquest ecu for the turbo conversion, IF you get the whole ecu harness and everything it connects to, including the control relay and fuel pump wiring. A Master E8000 fuel pump, mounted external to the tank and using the carby motor fuel lines (with some mods on the supply and return sides) should work fine. Master fuel pumps are available at most good auto parts houses.
These intakes got very popular with the starquest boys and Ozzie hot rodders, and therefore are not cheap, and you must pay shipping from Australia, too.
I bet the starquest turbo swap would end up cheaper overall, even buying a full donor car and not recouping anything from parting out what you don't want from the donor.

I would be one of the few to do that. This is for a 4G32 conversion in any early Mitsu, real early.
