Getting the Wheeling Fever
I've read the swap bible throughly, and I just want to clarify before I run out and start gathering parts for my install.

Here is the plan:

1987 SQ motor with an 88-89 ECU and knockbox. 7.5:1 CR pistons, running a 16a turbo pushing 12 PSI through an intercooler, mated to a rebuilt KM145 possibly with Starion internals for added strenght. I would run premium fuel.

Is this a reasonable setup?

They got thrown in, along with the associated relays. No extra charge. I discussed this with the OP and his son when they dropped by. Stock photo footage from years ago...when I thought I was serious about actually finishing this project of mine. I still have it all, just a little dustier these days...

When you swap the gearbox bits make sure you either modify the Montero front case for the larger SQ bearing or use the full SQ front case. Too many people swap the gears but still keep the smaller input bearing just to have the box fail.
I do prefer electric fans especially for this swap.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
Finally have my hands on the block. Since I will be doing a full rebuild, with all new2 internals, inus the rods and the crank, I'll be sure to do a fully documented write-up with pics. I was able to pick up a nice , almost complete, engine for $100, so I'm into it pretty cheap so far, but I know the parts will add up quickly. I'm going to dismatle the engine and hopefully have it to the shop for a good boiling, magnaflux, ream and hone by early next week. I'll keep y'all posted.

Aso, wh is the erdict for mounting the IC atop the engine, like the turbo diesel pajeros?

I would say there's no benefit to putting the FMIC inside the engine compartment. I don't see how it could "cool" any air if it's inside the engine compartment. If you're going to do that, save yourself some installation headache and just route the turbo outlet piping directly to the TB, maybe wrap it in header wrap, or some kind of foil insulation to keep the engine heat at bay. Otherwise, mount the FMIC up front where it belongs, and route the piping accordingly, so the FMIC will work as designed.
