That's funny...

I noticed that most of you that are commenting are from commiefornia. So, I guess I should have put my Rainbows and Skittles gloves on for you bitches. Those welds are horrible. They might hold. If those were pics of a trail fix, good work. Its not. All of that Pretty and/or functional weld comments are excuses for a bad welder. A "GOOD" weld looks "PRETTY" because it is a proper weld.
Initially, the point I was making was that on critical welds, maybe you should have an competent welder do the work. If your learning or whatever, then fine, but at least practice before you weld on your frame. What do you think the golden state bridge is held together with, besides rivets and bolts? Unicorn piss? NO! Good and "pretty welds".

Lol, wow! Every time I see someone resort to insults in a discussion versus facts I usually come to the conclusion that their either simply ignorant & lacking in their communication skills, a child who hasn't learned how to have an adult discussion, or wrong.

Also this kind of behavIor isn't tolerated on these forums especially when we don't know you from Adam (not you toasty ).

So either post up something informative and constructive, or don't post.

So, r u saying the weld don't look good and because of that they won't hold up? Can you support this with anything other than insults? I see from your profile that your a fabricator after all....

It's the Golden GATE Bridge, but I would have to agree with you a little on the welds. First off I could NOT have done a better job, but when the welds pool upwards and are not flat they don't have great penetration. It is by no means a terrible job, but after some use the sliders may bend up a bit. Ask me how I know.

EDIT: In looking back at the pics it looks like those plates are pretty thick, so I am guessing he made multiple passes which is why they look pudgy. All in all I would say it definitely is functional.

You're obviously new here, so here is your warning. I strongly suggest you take it seriously.

Language like this will not be tolerated. Period.

While the quality of work may be in question, there is no need to speak like this to anyone here. EVER.

Body Damage is Cool
Welds look a bit sloppy but prob will hold up. None the less I would definitely add some bracing. Having a guy standing on rock rail is bemusing but doesn't tell much. Put a Highlift or something under it for more real world test. If there are any concern doing it then its not a real world rock rail because when you need them they will exposed to likely much higher loads. I would specifically concentrate on either/both ends since that would expose mounting arms to highest stress. In real world we don't always get hang up smack in the middle. Do we?

I like the wheels. The question I have is why is the bracket the frame sticking up from the top of the frame? the good thing is if you are consern about the welds there is enough space between the welds to add more.

Thanks to all the rest of you for the advice without the attitude. We did do a hi-lift test in the middle and on each end & it seemed to hold up fine. We also both jumped up and down on them to be sure since we both weighed in at close to 1 ton .

Seriously though, the question I'm hoping to answer soon is whether or not it will hold up on the trail and only way to truly know that is go for a run.

Yeah, those wheels have been with me since my 2nd Montero (since the vmag days back in the 90's ).

As for the brackets sticking up above the frame rails... they were purchased from Trail-Gear and came that way (L-shaped) along with some right angle gussets. Rather than spend time cutting the pieces I wouldn't need off (since my install wasn't going to be a simple one) we installed them that way instead.
