Getting the Wheeling Fever
Hi Guys, We just went on vacation approx 1600 miles. About half way through I started smelling oil when we stopped. I looked underneath and saw small drips of oil under the transmission and further back ont the cross memebers. There seems to be some forward of that. Now we are back home I am searching for the source. I wiped a few things off and drove the car a little but I am unable to see where it is coming from.

I once heard of an additive you can but in the oil and use a black light to see where it is coming from.

Has anyone ever heard of this or done it or have any idea's?

I've found it for other fluids (coolant) at pep boys and other auto parts stores.

I'm far from an expert but based on my own experience, the area's I would doublecheck are...
- Are you sure it's engine oil? If you're not sure, it could also be transmission fluid, power steering fluid, or differential fluid.
- Assuming it's from your engine, it could be the valve covers, or the front seal where oil drips through front plastic engine cover (timing belt cover). If there's an engine oil cooler on the 93 it could also be those lines.
- If it's tranny fluid, then it is likely coming from the tranny cooler lines.
- If it's steering pump fluid, it could be coming from the pump, reservoir, or the lines between them.

I'm sure there's more that others can think of.

I am pretty sure it is engine oil but I will double check the other fluids and area's you mentioned.

Thanks

I noticed a similar leak on my 94 SR, after four wheeling one day.

It took quite awhile to hunt down the leak but it ended up being a seal in the front diff. It was spraying up on the front of the tranny and then blowing back to the drive shaft and cross members.
