Getting the Wheeling Fever
My friend gave me a 1990 montero LS. It needs some work, it does run and drives good, the majority of the work is interior work..moldy carpet, moldy headliner etc...I need new front seats, they were stolen...A/C doesnt work, kinda needed here in FL, we can live without it but its nice..L...anyway, my plan is to give it to my daughter in a few months when she turns 16, and I know nothing about Monteros...Ive always worked on my vehicles, but Im finding that parts are rare for this...Im sure I will be asking a lot of questions, and am wondering what is a good place (other than salvage yards, which im checking) to get stuff like seats..headliners...thanks and am looking forward to being a part of this forum smile

Welcome to the 4x4Wire!

I am one of the parts guys, but have been joined by others parting out Monteros and Raiders.

I would suggest boning up on your use of the Search function to read up on past headliner installs, AC repairs, seat recovering or replacement, and the like.

This is the place!

Cheers,
Russell

Wether or not you like it, the salvage yard is going to be your best source for parts. The thing is you will need to be diligent in your searching, checking back often. I don't know how many of the 4-door 6-cylinders I have seen in the yards with bad motors and everything else ok. Unless you have some room to buy them when they pop up, you are going to be using the salvage yards a lot.

Glenn,

My Daughter fell in love with the Dodge Raider/Montero last year and we located and purchased a 1988 Raider for $1000. I thought for another couple a thousand I could restore and paint the truck and she could have her dream vehicle. Now, I am not very mechanical so I would have to pay for most of the upgrades. 8 months, rebuilt engine, transmission, A/C and $8500 later I am still having problems keeping her on the road. A faulty steering box the latest problem. Beware that it may become a black hole for you and a nightmare to find parts. On the other hand, my Daughter is still in love with this beast!

Not everyone has the means to spend $8500 on a 88 Raider, but you can still make it respectable and a good beater. Just pay attention to what you are doing and do the work yourself. If you need help, get on the board here the wealth of knowledge on this board would put a dealership to shame. We are having a get together in Florida, in the Ocala area in November. Here is some info on it!

I have been to the yards here in Denver a bit lately and there are a couple of 90 Montero's so if you need something reasonable I can pick it up for you. If you can't find it locally of course. Welcome to the wire.
