Gen II Windshield Squirty thingy Question #1004411 07/28/10 05:36 PM

Finally got sick and tired of having a dirty windshield all the time and decided to look at the window squirters on the hood.

They have been sort of working for about year. The fix was easy, using a thin piece of wire I was able to unplug the holes.

Once working noticed there are four streams of water from the two washers. One set of streams seem to go about 3/4 up the window and the other set maybe a 1/4.

Would like to change where the water goes on the window. Are the squirters adjustable?

Need a Spot
Stick four needles/pins back into the squirters and see where they point. Then see if you can correct the aim of the two pointing low by gently moving the needles so they point up higher?

Or, if they are individual type (tubes straight to single sprayers) all you need is pliers.

Sorry, I have a gen-3 & I don't have any idea what type I have!

2001 Montero XLS. Needs some TLC.
My B**ch ex-wife really treated this vehicle badly. Been fixing it up since I had to take possesion after the divorce.

Thanks Michael,

It has the two prong squirter. I try the pin method this evening and see what happens.

Also, interesting reference site !!

Getting the Wheeling Fever
You can buy the spray nozzles from the dealer. I believe they were under $20 IIRC. I've tried fixing them in the past without success.

** Cool to see someone from the NW. smile

they are totaly adjustable, just stick a needle into them(a bit thick one) and move as you like,

I clean them and re adjust almost evey rainy season, even the back window squirter can be adjusted

I was able to clear 3 of the squirter holes with a thin piece of wire from a wire brush and a lot of patience. One still needs a bit of work but it is better.

There are few us up in the great NW. There are quite a few people on the board from the Portland area.

Will be running the Naches Trail either next month or the month after. We'll probably camp two nights and run the trail on Saturday. If you can make it up that would be cool.

Thanks for the confirmation 3esso, I was a little worried about sticking a needle in them a breaking something.

Body Damage is Cool
To get them really clean, remove the squirters completely and soak them in vinegar for a few hours to remove the hard water deposits. Then reinstall and aim the nozzles where you'd like them to squirt.

I only use distilled water in my washer reservoirs and don't have any more problems with them becoming clogged, but then again I don't have a need for any freeze protection in my washer fluid.

clr should also work if the vinegar isn't strong enough.

With the gen II's I havent had any issues with clogging. With the gen I's I cleared the holes first poking out the blockage using a small wire strand and then literally blowing out the item. When doing this, I discovered there were 2 blockages and not just what was blocked at the tip of the water nozzle.
