Getting the Wheeling Fever
Last night I discovered my A/C cooling fan had died. I disconnected plug by the fan and connected 12 volts to it and it will not turn on.

Question....Where is the best place to get a replacement?

Also, Does anyone have trick to getting the condenser fan out of a GEN II. It looks like the hood latch assembly needs to be removed or the radiator and condenser.

I've never removed mine but on inspection it does look like you need to remove the hood latch, horn, and grill to get access to lower bracket bolts. It looks that the fan and motor will slide up and out in front of the condenser. Maybe you could be the first to do a DIY instruction post.

Correct. The hood latch mechanism has to be unbolted, and the lower mounting point is way down low. These fans are securely mounted, that's for sure.

Seek a replacement motor from the junkyard. All other sources are quite expensive.

You also need to let the trans oil cooler drop down or at least it's easier if you do. You don't need to disconnect the lines. Just unbolt it, let it drop a bit and support it while you work on the fan.

10-12 years seems to be the typical life span of these fans so if you get one from a junk yard make sure you can return it because it's highly likely not working. I just did this last weekend. I tested it in the parking lot and took it straight back No worky.

Here's what I did since replacement fans are so expensive. You don't have to use the stock shroud though. It works OK, but is loud running as a push fan. Also, at 650cfm I don't think it's enough. You might want to try and get a 1000cfm fan from JC Whitney.

Fan replacement is complete. I went to the salvage yard and got a used one for $65.00 with a 6 month replacement warranty. I did elect drop the trans cooler a little to get it in and out. It probably would have come out without dropping it. But I did not want to take a chance and damage the condenser.

I took pictures along as I did it for a pictorial for the form. I just need to look at them. I may have missed a few pics along the way. My 4 year old was helping me do the replacement so we will see how many I am missing.

Thanks for all of the advise and help. The next issue to tackle is the CAT converter heat issue.

my gen2 didn't have one so I bought an aftermarket one and installed it.

I used my old sway bar bushes as washers and bolted the fan to the A/C condensor

I had to pull the radiator in order to get access from behind.

It now sits flush and after 2000km I did a thorough inspection and found no rubbing or chaffing.

I wired in a relay to get switched from the A/C pump clutch signal - that way it's easy to see when the compressor gets 12v or not as well.

I have a coolant hose insert on the way from fleabay that will serve as coolant loss alarm and temp activation for the fan ( I might add another fan in the shroud that will pull) so I can delete the viscous fan and save on economy - I have a 3 row core that cools very well! smile
