I am new to the 4x4 thing have allways owned trucks ( PU )that said I really like my 1990 Isuzu trooper.recently took it on a camping trip 600 miles one way.I have the 2.8L in town I am getting 320-340 miles out of my tank on this trip I was loaded down with 4 large coolers strapped to the top and I was only getting about 270 miles per tank on the highway and was loosing speed on steep inclines on the highway sure miss my v8's I am used to the trooper is a very fun truck to own but has no balls

Since you didn't really ask a question, I am assuming that you are wondering whether or not your mileage was "normal" for your rig. Given the numbers you did give, the mileage seems to be in the ballpark for your rig.

And yes, the stock 2.8 is a pig in terms of power. A good percentage of us that started with that engine are now running the GM 3.4, a HUGE upgrade.

You really can't judge mileage based on the miles per tank. You need to divide the miles driven by the number of gallons put in. The gauge is inaccurate enough that you really can't tell from just the fact that the tank needed filling whether you were taking on 18 or 22 gallons. Makes a huge difference in the calculated mileage.

Induced drag is also a big factor. Four big coolers are really going to increase the drag. Also, does your rig have a stock suspension and tires or is it lifted or running oversize tires. Either one can significantly reduce mileage.

Well I allways run my tank all the way down so I put between 19-19.8 gallons every time so unloaded in town I am getting around 15 MPG .and yes thats why I pointed out the coolers its like having a kite hooked to your ride.dont know if I will upgrade to that motor but was just saying that the 2.8L is not a good fit in this has no balls and sucks gas.But I do not regret getting the vehicle its truly one of the funnest rides I have ever owned.I allways liked Ford trucks cause you sit up higher in the seat and you get that with the trooper.I think I am going to restore this ride and keep it for camping expeditions I like going way out when I go and its very good for that stuff
