1)Came across a 1991 Gen 2 SR 3.0L with 4.875 gears. In order to use them on a Gen 1 2.6L I need a Gen 1 SWB 3.0L front end? 2)The Gen 2 front carrier assembly will fit into the Gen 1 SWB 3.0L front housing, No need to set the gears? 3)Will a Gen 2 SR 3.0L rear carrier assembly bolt up to a Gen 2 3.5L carrier? no need to set the gears? ![[Linked Image]](http://i441.photobucket.com/albums/qq140/vwchisme/JY%20finds%2008-07-2010/IMG00244-20100807-1347.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](http://i441.photobucket.com/albums/qq140/vwchisme/JY%20finds%2008-07-2010/IMG00248-20100807-1348.jpg)

Yes it will fit, you will have to set up the gears. 3)Will a Gen 2 SR 3.0L rear carrier assembly bolt up to a Gen 2 3.5L carrier? no need to set the gears?
No, different sizes. Good luck, but wait for some one to verify my memory.

I dont think you can swap the front end gears over to the gen 1 housing. The Gen 2's front end gears are a high pinion design and are cut different.

Justice, in your thread about the trip, you mentioned John's specs on his ride.. John had his 90 LWB with 33's,Crawler Gears, 5.29's and ARB airlockers in both diffs Gen 2 Trailing arms, RB sliders and tube bumper. Where did the 5.29's come from? Where those the Aus cut ones or from Mr.bishi? I'm needing something bad now to up this ratio. This auto trans is not cutting it. Thanks buddy! Jason

Jason Not sure, you'll have to ask john, Lloyd or, Capt Crunch. All those guys run the 5.29's. The source might of dried up by now, in which case you can still go to 4.88.

Thanks for the reply's I thought an early 90s Gen2 4.88s were High pinion 7.25", gen 1s are all low pinion I dont think you can swap the front end gears over to the gen 1 housing. The Gen 2's front end gears are a high pinion design and are cut different. Can the gen ii front carrier assy be swapped as a whole? No, the mounting setup is different. I though Gen 2 came in high pinion & low pinion, also i thought v6 Montero's front ends were 8" and the 2.6l were 7.25" <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />.
