Flasher seems to be working fine ? But when i push down on the stalk for left turn...... the indicator light (dash)and bulb stay on constant. Then a few minutes later...sometimes it flashes as should. Did a search in the archives but didnt find anything specific. Gonna rip into the stalk but wanted to see if anyone encountered this and had a fix.

thanks

Sounds like the contacts in the stalk need cleaning.

Body Damage is Cool
Of course make sure the bulbs are good. Then double check
the Flasher switch as this can affect the turn signals

Sounds like the flasher switch to me -- this was how mine was operating when I first bought it. I replaced it with a generic flasher switch (just make sure the terminal pattern is the same) and it has worked great ever since.

Edited to add: I should clarify that when I said flasher switch I was referring to what seems to be called the turn signal flasher. Looks something like this:

Thanks guys !
Will replace the flasher switch and then clean the stalk if needed.

Sometimes you can narrow it down by jiggling the flasher switch a bit - mine usu acted up right after I had the flashers on, for some reason... I did take one apart and clean it out... this was 12 years ago, but I think I remember something about a little ball bearing that rides on the contact patch rolling along the garage floor? Better idea is to find a few at the junkyard and swap em in till you find a good working one. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

Thankfully the genII went to a different switch, and the problem was eliminated, at least for some of us.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
Went to remove steering wheel to clean out the stalk switch. Got the main nut and lock washer off but the darn bugger wont pull off. I PB blasted it and pulled on the top of the wheel while gently hitting the bottom with a rubber mallet. Nothing ! There are 2 tapped holes next to the nut i just took off. Are those required to make some kind pry plate that will pry the wheel off if i install screws and make a plate ? Hope that made sense ? The FSM didnt go into detail on steering wheel removal. Thanks !! Funny thing though....after tappping on the wheel...so far the indicator is working as should. But i would prefer to clean the switch.
