Anyone here have State FArm as their auto insurance and if so do you have any comments on whether its been a good or bad experience?

I'm getting ready to switch companies and so far, I'm leaning towards State Farm. I've heard they are good, the rates they quoted me are very good and I've heard they pay out pretty good on accessories, which would be important for someone with a loaded 4x4, like me.

Any thoughts or comments would be greatly appreciated.

I had state Farm for a long time on Auto. I also had them on home for a while. They did very good for me on everything except price increases on auto even without claims. I was going to keep them but I had some problem when I refinaced my house. So I can not recall exactly why I swithced. I would consider going back if the price was good.

Used to have them, then they jacked my premiums up when I got to Alaska. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

I would never go back to them, as they were among the first to inform the Katrina/Rita customers that they weren't going to honor their policies. You might take a look at that.

They no longer back home owners here in Florida anymore. My house 40yrs old and NEVER a claim! Needless to say over the years they have been happy to take my money! I still have car ins through them and shortly leaving in next month due to JACKED premiums.

USAA for military only, otherwise Amica. They run 1-2 year after year in customer satisfaction. Geico bought radar and laser guns for the cops so they could raise rates when you got ticketed. Don't bend over around State Farm or Allstate, or the good neighbor or good hands will eff you over. Nationwide is on your side, your back, and around your neck.

I also had decent luck with Liberty Mutual.

Haven't used them in about 20 years.

However, my experience with State Farm has been fair.

They do have their own claims adjuster and I have found they tend to low-ball repair estimates.

Their rates were not very competitive.

What first got me thinking about State Farm was this website...

http://www.leifs.com/claims.php

For anyone in Oregon, Leifs is pretty well known for their commericals and being anti-insurance. They don't do the back deals that pretty much all other auto shops do. Oregon has very pro-consumer insurance laws so a shop like this can exist and do very well if they concentrate on educating the public on their rights instead of doing what most shops do and arrange back door deals with insurance companies.

With all that in mind, I was very interested to read that they gave State Farm such high ratings as far as claims service. That and the fact that I read on numerous boards that State Farm is very good about paying for accessories, where as other companies are not.

The rates I've been quoted have been extremelyood compared to the rip off I've been getting with MetLife for the last 20 years.

So, I'm still on the fence, but that's where I'm coming from.

A few of my family members have been involved in accidents in which the at fault party were state farm. I can't remember specifics but both times were a nightmare dealing with them!

I've only used USAA auto insurance since I started driving. Waiting for my premiums to go down this year on renewal (just turned 25 recently)

I've never had to do a claim... not sure how its going to fall out if for whatever reason I need to, rumor is they are difficult to get your value back.

I once got hit by a lady who had USAA, and getting my repairs covered by them was a pretty smooth process. I'm not military so I can't use them myself.

I've been shopping around because Travelers has jacked my auto premiums 25-30% over the past 3 years despite having a spotless driving record, zero tickets or claims. A guy from Liberty Mutual who does business with a lot of folks in the local Mazda club gave me a good quote. For the same price as Travelers now wants to charge me, LM would give me 5x the coverage.
