My 89 3.0 began running extremely poorly today. there was a sudden loss of power., Max speed about 15 mph and difficulty starting accompanied by low muffled backfiring. no codes. I've checked for vacuum and air leaks and have compression tested 2,4 and 6 120 120 115 (280k) All i can think of is the timing belt may have jumped. Anyone ever experience this? thanks.

Roll Me Over

yes... happened to me once.
a decade or so ago, when i first got the head gasket done...
a week later driving in the freeway, everything is fine. then a second later... bam.
i barely made it off the exit.
the head guy at the local toyta said a bit of FIPG gasket stuff got loose and got into the teeth and made the belt jump.
