My 2000 Six cylinder, automatic, air conditioned Wrangler got up in the RED on the temp gauge this weekend. I have it on the ranch and only drive it off road.. and it hasn't been run in 20 weeks till this weekend.
I put her in neutral and ran her up to 2500 for a couple of minutes.. the temp came down to just above the 210 mark and stayed there as I watched closely for the rest of the days use. She never did lose any coolant. But she tried to run hot all day long.
So back here in civilization again.. I went to O'Rileys and purchased a fan clutch and also a thermostat. Both of which I will install next Saturday out on the ranch.
O'Rileys only carries ONE fan clutch for this ride. I purchased a MURRAY H/D fan clutch.. My question is do you are anyone have experience with this particular fan clutch?
Is the H/D feature going to be a nuisanse? Making too much noise? Should I go down and purchase a MOPAR clutch? I need a little advice here!! Since it is a one time install and is really in the armpit of the state, I don't want to take an incorrect part out there and install it only to be unimpressed at the service it provides..
So any and all comments are welcome.

Body Damage is Cool
Change the stat first, if it is fixed, you're done.
Fan clutches don't go bad very often..
The Murray ones are fine...but the csk stat is the one I'd worry about. Get the stat OEM, it has a air bleed check ball that the checker one does not.

Thanks Sup.. I think it is the thermostat too.. But since the fan clutch is only 40 bucks, I will swap it out at the same time.
I called the local Jeep house this morning and they only get $14. for a MOPAR thermostat.. So I will get me one of them this morning.. On your advice.
While I'm there I will price their fan clutch.. might go oem on that too.
Believe me when I say, My ride isn't in a place where ya wanna work on it.
Just in passing I got 12.54 inches of rain in the past 24 hours.. Houses all around me are flooded this morning.

Ok Sup, I went and purchased a MOPAR thermostat. You are correct, it does have the little vent with the ball in it. That little ball is well worth the 5 or 6 bucks extra it cost over the parts house one.
They wanted $240 for a fan clutch??? So I will take the $40. one with me and install the thermostat first. If the thing performs as I think it should I will take the $40 one back and be happy with the thermostat.. Which I do think is the problem anyway.
I have been told that the fan clutch I purchased is loud and unbearable to the ear.. No experience with it but that is what I've heard.
Anyone have experience with the Murray fan clutch?

If I remember right, there was a TSB to replace the fan clutch on 99 and 2000 TJ's for an overheating problem. The Murray one should be fine. If it kicks in earlier, so be it, the noise is better than running too hot!

Thanks Marty, I wasn't worried about it kicking in... My worry was it not kicking OUT! If it takes a minute or so longer to go into the "coast" mode that would be Ok with me.
