Getting the Wheeling Fever
Hey all I know this has been done before by someone on this site, but I once again have failed to manuever the "search" feature!!! Got any links for me?? A coworker has a complete '88 7MGE with a 5 speed. He posed the thought of dropping it in and replacing my good 'ol 22RE with just about 190 grand on the odo. I'm not sure if I'd be able to do it, but I'd love to entertain the thougth for a bit. Any insight or tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Holy crap what a great link!!!! Thank you so much, I really needed this to help me decide what I'm getting myself into if I do this. One day I'll figure out the search option on this site!!! Thanks again.

Our apologies that the photos in that thread no longer work. Rick had to rehost his pix at one point; the links he gave me at the end of the thread are dead; been 4 years.

Have fun reading!

I did a 7M-GE swap.
The gain isn't worth the trouble and hassle. Noissy engine, uses a lot of gas and lacks torque in the upper revs if you want to drive at higher speeds.
I now have a 2JZ which is a lot better.
But if you can get parts for cheap or fabricate most things yourself, it's always better than a22R or 3VZE .

Body Damage is Cool
A while back I wrote about a guy that was posting over on the Trail Gear forum about a GM 3.7 (Atlas) inline five cyl swap. That engine fits better than an inline six and puts out 240hp. There is a good chance that it will bolt up to a Toyota R150F Tacoma transmission with a GM bellhousing. The engines are out of 2003 - present Hummer H3 and Chevy Colorado pickups. They have a pretty good record for endurance, they're cheap at the wrecking yard and they are fuel efficient.

I'm still stuck on the idea of 5VZFE TRD blown swap though. A Toyota inline six in a BMW 3 series is a great combo. If you'd like to work with a 7MGTE or 2JZ engine. -- Matt

I know there is a whole lot of options out there for engine swaps, but I'm thinkin I'm going to stay with the 7MGE. If I can get all the pieces lined up so that I can have this swap done in a reasonable amount of time!! I don't worry about the 7mge too much although I know I'm going to lose some of the low end torque, but I'm going to enjoy the more hp and the higher end revs. Not to mention that I'm getting the engine, harness, ECU for probably half the price it's worth!! If I'm not mistaken the only big fabrication issue with this swap is the oil pan and some redirecting of the exhaust. I already have the electric fan and I'm hoping that it'll fit okay without issue.
