Everytime I drive from Phnx to L.A. and I stop for gas in Quartzsite or the Texaco just east of State Line, my CEL comes on right after I pull way from the pump. I dissconect the battery in L.A. It stays off till I again stop for gas on the way home. Then it comes on again. I also think my MPG tanks too. I doesnt happen going anywhere else. What gives? It has happened on two trips now.

missfire/detonation detection tripping the ecu? I know I get it on our obd2 honda sometimes. missfire number 2 cylinder etc.. Sounds like you may just be getting crappy gas?

Getting the Wheeling Fever
IÆve never had any fuel issues buying fuel in Quartzsite. In 2 ¢ years of commuting from So Cal to Phoenix, I would buy fuel twice a week in Quartzsite. The 300e would get Mobil and the others would get Pilot next to McDonalds. If I remember correctly, I typically got better MPG because the gas was not E10 at the time.

Body Damage is Cool
I was down there and I saw Mulder and Scully taking samples of the fuel down there. Plus the air has a diffwerent density there, it smells like cotton candy tastes.

Are you going over any summits, like Sciriocco (spelling??)? Perhaps the o2 sensor is overheating, or a related thing.

Our experience coming in to Palm Springs from Phoenix was a melted exhaust manifold. Poor little '86 Montero in the August heat of 1995, all the grades and our little trailer taxed the Montero greatly.

dont get me started on e10, 7mpg worse with it on my 78 dodge colt -_- Our hx honda which is th mega high fuel economy older version netted 48mpg quite a few times on highway trips, now its down around 37 38 and gutless as hell.

All I know is that the McDonald's there is quite possibly THE slowest one in the entire country. Seems like it takes 15 minutes just to get an order of artery-clogging fries, every stinking time.

Hope that helps.
