Getting the Wheeling Fever
With my 290,000 mile 86' 22RE Runner, I had to do the chain 3 times. This last time I upgraded to the LC dual chain kit with the steel guides, so thats about 96K with the plastics. By the way, if some you remember back awhile I had some problems with excessive noise after the install. Turns out, my idler pulley bearing was shot, which sounded like my engine was coming apart! Fixed.

I think it depends a lot on driving style. My '87 which always sees every regular maintenance, had the first set (from the factory) break at 175,000 miles. The factory recommends replacement every 100,000 I think, so 1.75 times the factory interval sounds pretty good to me.

>>>*We see them come in consistantly broken at around 125,000 miles, some last far longer though. Rarely far less, in those cases the engine is having a bit of a rough life. Those that seem to last forever are almost always highway vehicles driven long distances daily.

It isn't the guide that is the problem though, it is the tensioner nearly without fail. Once it begins to leak down, the guide isn't long for the world....*EB
