Extortion at its finest here.....
I decided I want to start driving the Pontiac again because of the great gas mileage. I got her back on my insurance policy ,charged the battery, cleaned all the terminals, checked all the fluids, measured for a roof rack, ETC. Cleaned her up and she runs great....its still a Pontiac Sunfire but the turd is a shining.
I took it in for the emission test and it passed all the emissions with no issues EXCEPT that I had charged the battery and the computer had no memory of a "drive cycle". Now it seems they hook up to your computer and have to have data that was erased when I charged the battery. At this point I am flashing back on the last time I took this car in for a test and it failed because of the seal on the gas cap. A $3.00 part cost me a $50 test that time. No four cylinder engine should fail especially over trivial crap like this.
F%#$ing maggots!! These reasons for failing tests obviously have nothing to do creating clean air but are more about creating frustration. I swear if this state didn't have the ocean I'd be back in the rockies.
Que the U-haul.

Wait to the next "Big One". The Rockies may very well have ocean frontage.

These reasons for failing tests obviously have nothing to do creating clean air but are more about creating frustration. I am sure the state thanks you for your generous contribution to help reduce the state deficit! Think of it as stimulus funding going to a bloated bureaucracy providing an unnecessary function.

Three days, otherwise people would reset the codes and hope they don't pop before the test.

I doubt any vehicle I've owned over the last 20 years, heck since I've owned vehicles, would pass the Cali emissions check.

I encountered this the last time I smoked the 96SR. Just have to wait for it to reset. Can be sped up by following an ecu reset proceedure.

Same here.... People were resetting check engine lights / codes by disconnecting the battery.
The state figured it out.... Sucks that it got someone that wasn't trying to cheat the system.

Yea I was actually trying to create efficiency. I figured strong electrics would equate to a hotter spark ending in less emission. F@#k me for trying.
So the tech told me to drive the thing for about 100 miles...Is the required computer data based on miles or time elapsed?
This is retarded and it irritates me to even have to go through this bureaucratic masturbation. I just don't have time for the silly little gotchas the government likes to create. no time at all.

The latest "work around" I have heard is to start and shut of the engine multiple times without going anywhere. I heard that its the number of start cycles that gets looked at.
Supposedly , this trick is used by people that have cars that throw a CEL pretty quickly. IT allows them to get to the smog station before the light comes on.
IMHO pretty lame. I feel that if someones POS can't meet smog its time to sell it to someone that can figure it out and get something a bit newer. Not that this apples to you., just in general. I was behind a ricer with no converter, 3" blat blat exhaust and bad rings in traffic last week. What I dont like is being forced to breath that crap because this idiot wants to play speed racer. His choice is to spend lots of money on a lowering kit and new wheels and not get the thing running right. In that regard, I'm all for strict rules.
I have no issue keeping the smog gear intact on my Raider.
IT really sucks that you were doing the right thing and got caught in a test for people that are trying to cheat the system.

Yea if I had been driving a ricer with a fart can then I would have actually thanked him for failing the car.
Wouldn't a polluter car with no drive cycle history fail the emissions just the same as if they did have a drive cycle history? Whats to stop a guy from putting all the smog equipment back on his car just for a drive cycle and test?
I'm to the point where I'm driving it anyway. They make it ridiculously difficult to comply so......F em!!!!
