87 SWB 2.6l 5 speed. Runs great in first through third. Fourth it starts lacking for power at 2800 rpm WOT. Fifth has little power and is almost impossible to hit 2800 rpm. In fifth it will start top pop like a backfire into the carb. New cap, rotor, plugs, fuel filter is good, and pump seems to fill the filter fast. Any ideas?

Check your timing, too. Wires helped out my Raider most, though, with the same issues.

Secondary diaphragm in the Mikuni would be the thing to check after plug wires. Sounds to me like its leaking.
