the pedal is stiff but truck doesn't want to stop unless i press the brake pedal really hard. the front pads are new. performed the booster test and air tightness test and when i start the engine after pumping and holding the pedal down, it actually raises a little. I tried trouble shooting according to the factory service manual, but couldn't figure it out. any ideas?

Contaminated brake fluid is a possibility. Did you do a visual check on the hard lines to make sure they aren't pinched?

always working

yes checked and bled the lines yesterday. also inspected the rear brake adjustment. the fluid wasn't the worst I've seen and the rear brakes seemed good.

seems to me that it has got to be a bad booster? when i press the pedal it doesn't 'pump up' like it used to. when i pump several times, hold down the pedal and start the engine there is no change in pedal height.

the booster pushrod couldn't get out of adjustment could it?

probably less headache to swap out the brake booster then play with the adjustment
