Previous Thread Next Thread Print Thread Rate Thread 89 trooper 2.6l auto reving too high before shifting up??? #1012511 11/08/10 01:54 AM Joined: Nov 2010 Posts: 3 Georgia, usa M maxslack OP Need a Spot I bought this rig with a rebuilt engine, but the tranny wouldn't shift out of 1st, except rarely, when the revs were through the roof. I replaced it with a junkyard unit, and it does the same thing except it will finally shift at around 5k rpms and it will go into 3rd as well. It shifts a little earlier if the "power" button is switched off. I tried adjusting the "kickdown" cable, but nothing seemed to help. Any ideas? At this point, I'm considering swapping to a 5 speed.
