Getting the Wheeling Fever
So I'm gonna need your help with this. I'm pulling my 22RE to swap in a 7m and I'm having issue with the wiring harness. I've got everying disconnected except for the damn wiring harness. I was hoping to remove the engine without having to disconect any of the harness connections on the engine and just pull the harness through the firewall. What I didn't plan for was that a portion of the harness runs down to the O2 senors and that is loomed with the contections for the tranny and transfer case. I'm not swapping the tranny and I'm not planning on removing it, just the engine at the bellhousing. So what's the trick to separating the wiring to the tranny? It looks like I've got to remove the engine with the entire harness and then separate the tranny wiring from the rest?? This is my first engine removal and it's going real good, just this hiccup. Thanks all.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
Okay so I have disconnected the tranny wiring and now the loom is completely disconected. The engine is gonna come out now. Now I'm faced with the complicated task of separating the wiring to the transmission and transfer case so that it can be re-used. My question is how is best to do this. I un-wrapped some of the loom and it's a bit overwhelming!! Can the transmission/transfer case wiring be separated from the rest or am I going to have to do some cutting?
Another question is in regards to two plug connections inside the cab, next to the ECU. What are they to? They appear to run up and into the dash, so I'd assume they are for indicator lights and the gauges. Man I wish they didn't loom everything together like they did!! Any thoughts? Thanks for any and all help.

Here are some suggestions:
- Masking tape + name all the tranny connectors.
- Remove all the loom
remove the firewall plug from the harness and save it... you will want to spray the harness with something to remve it.. personally i use windex as it is slippery then dries up nicely and leaves no gunk.
- buy new loom, dont reuse any of that old crap! Get all the sizes too!
- buy rubber shrinkwrap for everywhere where you have connections, keep it water tight!
- solder everything!
- buy a few rolls of electrical tape and don't be afraid to use it! Buy good stuff (3m) it will last longer
- get wiring diagrams for both!
- pay attention to how they do the loom factory wise... they wrap the cable a few times, then stick the loom on and tape it... it keeps the loom from moving...
- lastly, if it gets overwhelming, take a break or work on something else! Sometimes it takes me a few days of thinking of how to do something, before it finally kicks in.

Other than that... good luck!

Have you come across this 22r3-7m Swap write-up on Yotatech.com? The first post has links to two other write-ups. This Wiring break down may be helpful.

Here are a few more links that I have found.
Rockymountainextreme.com
BC4x4.com
Wildyoats.com

I haven't read through them all, just collected them for info for if/when I get around to doing the swap in my '91, that is if I ever get done with my '87 Supra turbo resto-mod build-up.

More than tread lightly. Leave it like you were never there, nor anyone else.
'90 X-cab 4.88's 33 BFG AT's, rr ARB, Headers, Ignition upgrade, cold air induction.
'91 X-cab 5.29's 315's BFG MT's, rr ARB, custom bumper and flatbed
