hey again all been away for a while.
I have an 87 4x4 with a 22r engine. I bought it as a repo and as for as I can figure the guy that had it before me was turning it into a mud buggy. everything is unhocked long list,... Anyway i was installing a wiper motor on it other day(cause he took it off) I blead my clutch and went to crank it to see if it helped that and all it will do is turn over,..no start. Here is what I have done(checked)
1.checked fuses OK
2.checked fuel, got it to the carb
3.checked fire and coil and plugs good at both
4.took #1 plug out, determended tdc, took distrib cap off, it's indexed to #1 wire.
5. took valve cover off no stuck valves
6.sprayed starter fluid in it,...no start

since this guy had cut and spliced so many wires I don't know if I pulled a wire loose while putting wipper motor on or what. or if it's none related to what I did. I don't know if it is a electrical or mechanical,....so i turn it over to the experts.

it spins and spins and acts like it is firing but no start. It not starting on spray tells me its electrical or timing,.....help please

PS i was talking about trading for a off road golf cart,...she may have just got her feelings hurt

Do a quick n' dirty check on the timing chain. Pull the distributor cap off and give it a crank. If the rotor doesn't spin, the TC is broken.

Time to start fixing his wiring mess after that I believe.

took valve cover off and TC looks good. I even rotated motor with wrench to check the entire chain. Top end looks good,......motor looks good, i was really surprised. Truck has 200k+ on the OD. must be a transplant. would a short be cutting into the spark? spark is bright yellow, not blue.

You said you have fire at the plugs, right? are the plug wires in the proper positions?

Also I remember a bad joke we used to play by exchanging the coil wire with one of the plug wires at the cap....It was really funny watching some one try to figure that one out.

Hope it's something simple like that.

I'll check that, I do have some great friends that like to help me out.

BUT

It was running before i replaced the wiper motor. But it has missed before when first cranked but after running alittle it would smooth out and run good. Didn't have alot of time to tinker with it this weekend. does anyone think this could be a carb issue?

Not if you have a yellow spark. I'd check the coil and ignitor; ohm out the sparkplug wires.

good news,....swaped out igniter,...it cranked on second try
pulled spark plugs got a purdy blue spark. I would have never thought that,.....it was sparking yellow, thought it should be cranking on starter fluid. thanks guys
