Getting the Wheeling Fever
Just a short tip for any of you with winter start issues.

This is of course assuming your electrics are up to snuff.

If you don't drive your truck often you could be left with summer diesel in your tank, or you could fill up with summer diesel just before a cold snap.

Make sure you run your tank down in the late fall and check with your supplier if they have received their winter diesel, if they don't know, keep looking.

Sorry if this is late for any of you

Good point!

Do you guys use chemical additives specific for low temperature in AB?

Another question, do we have "winter diesel" in BC?

Thanks,

winter diesel is TERRIBLE!!!! I would love to find summer diesel and run is all year round. my old man has a 500L tank of summer diesel he said I could use so thats a good start anyway. My Pajero runs like crap on winter diesel, terrible mileage and no power.

Thanks Phil,

I've been around. I got my Paj up to snuff with many of your superb tutorials, from then on just boring routine maintenance. I think she has about 55K KM on her now, what a great little truck.

I'll bet that 2800 is sweet, I would love to read a comparison of Betsy 3 ? over 2? some time.

I use a diesel additive I buy at Crappy tire, Power Service Diesel fuel supplement + cetane boost. 2.8 ltrs on sale, about $14

I believe the Ultra Low Sulfer Diesel we get needs some extra lubricants for the older diesels we are running.

The sulfer they took out was the lube for older systems.

Q. do we have "winter diesel" in BC?

I would hope you have, check with your supplier

I should mention as I did not read your question well, is that I use that supplement all year round.

Macka's suggestion is more in line with winter use as you asked & could be of some help if you were stuck with a tank of summer diesel, as well as keeping diesel flowing in extreme cold.

Being in lotus land I don't believe you experience real cold there - 26 here as I write.

I was talking to Mitsulvr (Don't know if I spelled that right) the other day. He was saying it's actually the opposite. The JDM trucks ran poorly on our high sulphur diesel. Japan and Europe have had the low-sulphur stuff for years before we did, which was a large reason why we didn't get all the cool little diesels they do. Made sense to me.

What I have "heard" is the Japanese use a better quality diesel than we use in North America, higher cetane? Hence the poor running in N.A.

In studying the diesels (fuels) I came to the conclusion the older fuel systems had different seals than used in the ULSD systems & that older systems should be supplemented with something to replace the lubricity of the removed sulfer.

BTW I am using the spelling of sulfer straight off the jug of additive. LOL. I think it is correctly spelled sulfur.
