Estimated Vehicles Affected: 39020
2001 MITSUBISHI MONTERO Defect Summary:
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES. THE ACCUMULATOR THAT IS INSTALLED ON THE HYDRAULIC BRAKE BOOSTER MAY HAVE BEEN IMPROPERLY MANUFACTURED. OVER A PERIOD OF TIME, THIS COULD RESULT IN LEAKAGE OF THE PRESSURIZED NITROGEN GAS FROM INSIDE THE ACCUMULATOR.

Remedy:

Getting the Wheeling Fever
Already had mine done. It started making a "chirp" noise. It took them all of about an hour to fix it. They replace the little black sphere that sits on top of the ABS..

Me too, but there are a few on here that paid out of pocket to have it done and deserve their money back. Also posted for a new member that was having problems and was told to go buy that part and replace it.

Hello, I know this ia really old post but I can?t find any more info.
My brother?s montero was fixed by the dealer for this issue, but the same day the issue return now the dealer said they need to replace the whole part more of a $1,000 just in parts it? s what they couted. Could it be that the brake booster accumulator that the dealer install it?s defective???
Any comment would be very helpful

Pd. my SAS Gen I it? s waiting for the 3.5 swap after my 3.0 with more than 250,000 miles it?s toast

Id call Mitsubishi, is it the exact same issue? Did it remedy it for a short time? When you call Mitsubishi DO NOT bad mouth the dealer, the dealer will get a notice your calling, in fact you might want to talk to the service manager first at the dealership and ask him what he would do. I have seen the manufacturer give you either a goodwill part or at least a partial goodwill. I do know ABS actuators I believe they are called, are expensive. Good luck. Yes it's the same issue, I talked to the sevice shop manager it's seems that the M-ASTC-ECU is not working at all, tomorrow they're going to check for voltage, hopefully it all ends there, since I have two GEN III in junkyards, I think it's not going to be more than a hundred bucks, let's see

Thanks
