Getting the Wheeling Fever
Well the worst has happened.
The back gally head plug failed and blew out of my newly rebuilt engine after 3000 miles (cam plug on the aft side). I bought the head last May and the block was rebuilt by an instructor at a local Community College (30 years experience as a mechanic.) All the oil pumped out, seized engine. WTF do I do. I have a 5 year warranty on the head but the 2.6 block is fried.
Thanks,
Ray

Well,
That is not the most non informational reply I've seen.
Anyone asked Clearwater to replace an engine?

Ray.

The plug in the back of the head is installed when the cam is installed and the cam caps are bolted down.

Sounds like the cam was preinstalled and the assembled head was bolted on?

You are screwed, time to start over.

If you think Clearwater will replace it...

Kevin,

Yes, I bought a total head from Clearwater and
got the whole bottom end rebuilt with all new parts.

Read the warranty, but sounds like a case for Judge Judy if you can prove it was the head. Small claims would be your only recourse. There's few things more maddening than putting all that work into an engine just to have some poorly made part flush all the effort and money down the toilet. If not Clearwater, then what?

This is unfortunate, to say the least.

The two complete cylinder heads I bought from Clearwater did not come with plugs in the rear cam galley. As they are supplied with a head gasket replacement set, I had to select the correct one (there are two styles for 2.6 engines that I know of), and install it.

Are you sure the head you purchased had a plug installed, or did your mechanic do it? It's not so obvious from just looking at a head right out of the box, unless you know what you are looking for. I'm just asking...

That is a very good question JohnnyB. I will have to ask the
auto instructor J.O. at the Linn/Benton Community College.
If the plug was not installed I doubt it would last 3K miles
(with no oil loss). As far as I know it was installed by
Clearwater. But I will ask.
