Whats the current standard for upgrading the alternator on a 3.0 for higher amperage?
I seem to remember that GM alts were good but I'm curious if there is something new?

david,
just curious. you ran the output of the alt to dual batt solenoid. you mounted on the "hot" side, not the switched post, right?
but what the oem charging wire?
did you just leave that out of the equation and just taped up the alternator end?

I upgrade mine to a 110 amp GM alternator the hardest part was getting the wiring right for all accessories to work but we solved that right away. I have a 1980 toyota 4x4 pickup and after the original alternator died and the remanufactured one was bad returned it and the next one was bad too I bought the GM one it was 50 dollars cheaper and more common than the older yota's so now all i got to do is take it to the store and buy a cheap 30.00 on the shelf alternator verses a 80+ one that has to be special ordered

I'm leaning away from the GM alt. My 3.0 has been built pretty sweet and it revs a lot higher then it did before, I'm thinking the engine running at 4-5k might kill a GM alt no?
