Everything I have read makes sense. Only question is since my choke isnt hooked up do I still need to let the engine warm before makin any adjustments? And what if my timing is already advanced? How go I tell? I would do backflips if I got twenty mpg or even anywhere close!
I don't want to be all doom and gloom, but how was the truck running before you installed the Weber? You could still have issues with timing, spark plugs, plug wires, carb choke, etc. Best to try and start eliminating things one at a time. I got the 32/36 because I don't have any plans on modifying the engine, so the smaller carb is the 95 percent solution for most of my driving.
As for the carb, I would try and hook the choke back up. My 32/36 has an eletric choke, and to be honest, I don't know if it really works or not, which I guess is a good thing. But the engine should be at operating temperature before you go and adjust the fuel/air and idle set screws.
Not sure how to check the timing, but if your Monty has the old-school style distributor with timing marks on the front of the engine, that should be easy to check. You'll need an inductive timing light (the kind that clips to one of the sparkplug wires), and figure out what the timing is supposed to be set at (should be an identification label of some kind in the engine compartment, or under the hood).
Use the search function, and ask questions. The folks in here, for the most part, are patient and will try and help you out.
