Need a Spot
I know there's probably a thread somewhere about this. How much of a pita is it to swap an automatic into a 5 spd truck. It's an 89 with the 3.0.

Thanks

Ive done about 3 transmissions changes in my time, but normally taking it out and reinstalling. I can drop a auto trans in about an hour, 2 hours when I was pulling my first 5 speed because their was more involved (removing the shifter). Takes about 3 hours to reinstall an auto trans, and about the same time for a manual. I would suspect you can get it done in about a full day or two. Just make sure you grab all the needed electronic parts for the auto trans.

Other than electronics for the tranny which should be simple (follow the wires). Any X members I need to grab?

Might need drive shafts too(length may be an issue)..Find a complete donor in the yard and go to town. You can use a 4 door donor for most everything I think with the exception of the rear drive shaft..

As far as electronics go there are two only two items you need to worry about, the AT temp light sensor, and the overdrive solenoid. I would rig my own circuit for the solenoid if doing a conversion..use the switch on the shifter in conjunction with a relay to energize it. The stock setup runs through the temp sensor and other such nonsense that you can simplify by eliminating.. The trans is controlled internally along with the cable, make sure you get the whole cable wit the little bracket. It should hook right up to your 3.0 plenum and throttle body.

You're in PA, I would just trade you my Raider. But Ive become pretty attached to it the last 9 years owning it. That and its nicely modded.

Alot of PA guys on this board, and Ive only met 1 of them (and the other two off the forum I am friends with). We should all meet up sometime for a rausch creek run.

I have an auto transfer case and as justice mentioned - I also have the aut driveshafts available. The auto tranny I had from the 89LS I parted was sold years ago. I also still have the torque converter if you need it.

I could sweeten the deal for you and trade you both my raiders I have a 87 2.6 5spd and an 89 3.0 5 spd. Both are bone stock. Actually I'm keeping the 89 whose syncros are not so good and I was planning on swapping the auto into once they are toast. The 87 is going up for sale this spring.
