Need a Spot
I searched and from the posts I found, some of the answers to question I have are not entirely clear.

I found a rolled 87 D50 2wd 5spd turbo diesel truck for $1300 complete and running with 55xxx miles on it.

I HAVE a LWB 1989 montero with a very tired 6g72 in it.

what all do I need to swap? a 4 cylinder transmission and case, Im guessing at the least.

will the mounts from the truck work in the montero?

does the engine on the truck have the proper oil pan?

what can I do to get a few more ponies out of the turbo diesel without breaking it? Ive read they are a wee bit fragile.

all I want is performance comparable to the stock gas engine. Intercooler? exhaust? bigger/better turbo? is there an injection pump I can swap onto the motor for some more fuel?

also, what transmission can I use or make some sort of frankenstein transmission out of if I wanted a lower cruising gear on the highway for the diesel? the 6g72 is spinning about 3k rpm at 60! I think thats a bit high.

If I had all the money I've ever spent on cars, I'd spend it all on cars.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
Hey there, my name is marty, im in seattle. I am starting a raider collection, and am eyballing a raider/monty with this engine installed. The guy who did it is a greaseball hack, but he digs the diesel stuff, and knows his info. Anyway, rather than doing the swap, im gonn buy his and rebuild or transfer stuff from one to another. He said he had to use the 2.6 liter pan with the diesel engine, and make a pick up tube to fit the gen one monty. Dunno how that works with what you have, but the pans from the 2.6 gas and the 2.3 diesel are apparently the same bolt pattern. If your not in a huge rush, ill pick the guys brain this weekend or next and let you know what i find out from him. I guess he has a pile of the 2.3 liter turbo diesels. Im gonna try to pry an extra from his greasy hands....muwahahaha! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/evil.gif" alt="" />

oH, AND ANOTHER THING! Im gonna turn off caps lock now, sorry. I have a v6 and an i4, and i have been putting the two together due to a body damage issue. It has required some mechanical compnent swaps, and i believe that the v6 and i4 parts are a bit different from my looking at them. Frame holes are the same, but skid plates have diferent forms, front bumper horns are different. Alternators, ps pumps are in diffferent positions, blahblah blah. But the reason i came back for third time is that the motor mounts on the 6 and four are definitely different. And like i said before, i am willing to part mine down and ship you out what you need. Reasonably priced of course, hate to toss these parts to a metal scrapper if you might need them.
