Just discovered all the old Popular Mechanics magazines are available in Google Books Online.. Going to be spending hours, if not days looking at this stuff...

From 1905 through 2005.. The complete magazines are there.. Takes a little pointing and clicking to figure out how to get the complete magazine content to come up..but it's there.

Awhile back, I picked up all the old Mother Earth News on CD. Just amazing how far stuff like wind/solar have evolved in reading thru it all; 4 volume set; good winter reading.

Gave a local charter school a National Geographic CD collection when they opened up; it rocks too.

I was about 10 when I discovered a box of old PM and Popular Science mags in my grandfather's bomb shelter ("I'm not all that scared of tornados, but those H bumbs look a little dangerous", he said, as he poured 34cuyds of concrete over 12 tons of rebar).

I loved those things. How to build a crystal radio, a scooter from a peach crate and and old rollerskate and a couple of boards (came in handy when I built my first skateboard about 6 years later). And the ads! "Hernia? Avoid surgery!".

Google sure is doing some great things! Anyway, thanks for the info about PM. I have quite a collection of those and Popular Science. Reading those is a favorite pastime.
