Getting the Wheeling Fever
|
Just goes to show how quickly things can change, right?
I too (sort of) ride a 95 Triumph Speed Triple (for sale actually) but shortly after buying it we went on a 4x4 trip out to west Texas and we came upon a motorcycle accident. We were first on the scene. I've been riding and driving for years now, but this was the first I had come across like this. Long story short, I did CPR on the passenger of the Harley road king that had left the road. I continued CPR uninterrupted for 45 minutes until first responders arrived, but the woman had obvious severe head trauma and likely died on impact. But I did what I could with her. The operator of the bike, who was very drunk, was very likely saved by the other members of our well equipped group.
Here is to a speedy recovery and hopefully an enlightenment that it could have been much worse.
And just for wanting to know, what sort of gear were you wearing?

Thanks to all for your wishes.
I am doing a whole lot better, at least I can type some words before my hands get sore but the first couple of weeks I was so weak that even the cell phone was too heavy.
Fortunately I was traveling at probably 35 - 40 mph max and was wearing all of my safety gear Alpinestar gloves, Triumph Stealth mesh jacket, boots and my lifesaver Arai helmet. Unfortunately I was wearing just jeans so that is why the injury to my left leg.
Indeed it could of have been worst but the deer took the worst part. As soon as I was released from the hospital I asked my wife to show me the area of the accident and there was the ()&^*%$%, still lying on the ditch. I don't remember anything of what happened at the exact moment of the impact but if I were driving my Monty believe me that I would of gone back and crush it's skull a couple of times in 2wd and 4wdH/L. Since I wasn't expecting to crash the black beauty I still consider it to be a freak accident.
TerraXpeditions the Speed Triple is one beautiful beast. With that triple 955 engine it screamed power and torque all the way to the red line as the front tire lost it's interest for the pavement; it was like no holds barred sex.
As for my project I will be starting as soon as I get the release from the doctors and as soon as I am done with the medical leave, still got 6 more weeks. I should be back to almost 100% by then with God's help. Block is on its bare bones and will be making a trip to the machine shop soon. Eddy and Larry, definitely I will give you a call when the time comes for an extra hand.

My dad always told me "That when your riding, it's not if your going to have a accident, it's when". I can't imagine the pain your in or the loss of your bike. Out where I live, we have elk that cross the highway. I've almost hit one doing 75 on my bike. That was almost enough to have needed my brown pants. Get well.

Getting the Wheeling Fever

Everything commenced during the weekend previous to Thanksgiving. Driving my 88 Monty I noticed that the breaks were making a noice indicative of new break pads were needed. That week the temperatures were mild so I decided to ride my motorcycle, a gorgeous 2004 all black Triumph Speed Triple, one of only 200. Everything was fine when on Thanksgiving eve on my way home from the office and only 2 miles from home a dear came out of nowhere and hit me on the rigth side knock me down uncouncious and completely destroying the bike. With the impact I suffered of a fractured left elbow, fractured right wrist, fractured toes on my right foot and two "almost" third degree burns on my left back tight and calf caused by the hot pipe. The process has been very painful and energy draining, since I have been through 3 surgeries in a matter of 5 weeks. Surgeries to place a titanium plate on my right wrist and to replaced my left elbow with one of the same alloy. A second surgey to "prepair" my leg wounds for a skin graph and a third surgery to do the graph. At this very moment I am almost through the suffering and the pain. I am working on my physical therapy and Im little by little gaining back my energy and strength. I spent Thanksgiving, the holidays and my birthday on Jan 15th either in bed or in my favorite chair down in the living room. All this has brought to a halt my turbo project but not for long. I got the engine block to the bare bones and I am working the little details on the fuel injection system, but more updates will follow. For now I wanted to say report myself back to our Wire community and say hi to y'all.
Javy What did you do to piss off mother nature so much that she sends a dear running into you on your motor cycle at the exact "right" time? lol My hopes for a speedy recovery are of equal amounts of hopes for pictures of the bike, dear, and updates on turbo build.

Yeah, Rolando, I realize that you are from Puerto Rico and they probably don't have whitetail deer there, but you are supposed to shoot them, not run over them...
Seriously, is there anything you need help with now. I'm real close...
I'll pm my new cell #.
Not responsible for advice not taken...
