Getting the Wheeling Fever
I had a lot of tread left on my mud terrains, but about two months ago I jumped in the 87 4runner & it seemed like I was all over the highway. Prior to this I noticed my steering stabilizer was leaking slightly.

I hadn't drove it in a few months, so I figured it was me. I then let my buddy drive it for about a month & it came back with both inside front tires worn down to nothing. It's been sitting for about a month & I am pricing two new muds & an alignment. Do you guys think its just an alignment issue?

I replacement front shocks, ball joints & cv shafts last year.

Might be too much toe out, easy to check with a tape measure between the front and rear of the front tires.

Could be your upper and lower A arm bushings are worn out. Also check your idler arm and TRE's

Just did a bushing R&R Read away

When these ol' gals start getting this old, they need some good old fashion maintenance.

Outside measurement on the front of the tire is 71 3/4".

outside measurement on the back of the tire is 70 1/4".

I did some reading & it looks like anything over 1/8" on toe out will cause the tires to scrub. Is this true?

I know I need to replace the bushings soon, but it will have to wait for another day.

Ouch! It has gone beyond toe'd out to outright spread eagle.

Is there excessive slop in the joints/bushings? Otherwise would be looking for something bent to be that far out...

Okay just got some new muds on the front.

Idler arm is shot! I just picked a new one up & I am going to put it on & then work on toe-out. I think the bushings on the arms need to be replaced also... that's going to have to wait for another day & I need to repack the wheel bearings!

What are the Negative Camber tolerances?

I have also noticed mine front tires have negative camber for a while & not sure what the tolerances are...

it's 50 7/8 toe in & 50 3/8 toe out inside tire. My daughter helped me measure in the dark this morning & she didn't hold the tape on the outside very well!

All of that info is in the FSM sticky at the top of this page. It is for a 93 but the IFS specs were the same from 86-95.
