The older RAVs get better gas mileage than the newer ones for that very reason- weight. It probably weighs something between 3800-4100. The curb weight of the 2011 4Runner is listed as 4400. So yeah, they are getting heavier, but you're looking at the numbers for the GVWR's. They're getting heavier primarily because they're getting bigger and bigger.
