Guys, I'm about to roll over 200K miles and the truck still runs great. It's just leaking a little oil out the valve covers. Has anyone here replaced the gaskets? How tough was it? Anything special to watch out for? I've already done the timing belt and water pump twice so I'm pretty familiar with this engine. I'll probably have this beast a couple more years. Thanks, Winkel

You have the take the intake manifold off, but other than that, it's not too difficult.

Might as well check the valve clearances and shim them as needed while you're in there too.

Will I need intake gaskets as well or are they reuseable with a little sealant?
Does anyone know of a write-up anywhere on the internet? I have a Haynes manual but it's not very good.

All of the upper intake gaskets are reusable and use no sealant.
The lower intake is a big V-shaped piece that bolts between both heads. Those gaskets are fairly complicated, not reusable, and pricey, but you don't need to tear into it that deep just to get the valve covers off.
The FAQ at the top of the page has some great links to online factory manual sources in the Parts/Accessories section.

Wink: You probably already know this, but it's worth stating: You may be able to cure your leak by tightening the valve cover bolts--mine were loose and I tightened the visible ones and slowed my leak down so far that it is not a concern any more.
Same thing with my exhaust leak--gone. I sprayed some WD-40 on the bolts the night before and went out the next morning and snugged 'em up. GTG!
Good luck, <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/patriot.gif" alt="" />

Thanks for the suggestion on snugging the bolts up. As I approach 300k mine are leaking also.
