I have a '99 Isuzu Rodeo 4WD, almost 142,000 miles. I just took over the maintenance on it from my ex in November, and have replaced the master/slave cylinders and front brakes so far. I suspect it has a clogged radiator and MAY need a new alternator. I'm just a not so car savy girl, I know a little, but not enough-LOL. In your opinions, is it worth working on the small things and keeping my Rodeo, or should I cut my losses and get rid of it before it nickle and dimes me to death?

If the major components (engine, tranny) are sound, I would keep it. Much cheaper than a car payment. Radiator and alternator are pretty easy DIY projects so they aren't too expensive.
Just keep a close eye on the oil level. That motor does not work well with low oil.

You could just get another date that's good at turning wrenches. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/evil.gif" alt="" />

Great idea! Unfortunately, HE was the one who didn't check the fluids, have the oil changed ever, and wore out my clutch. I tink I'll stick to taking care of things myself! Apparently, not all men ARE created equal

I appreciate your response. Some people are very quick to judge.

My apologies to the original poster and everyone else then for it coming across that way... No offense was meant in the first place.

Hi Celeste, welcome to the Wire; bit slow in the Zu section here, but you can always find help.
Click on the Isuzu section above in the header for other little tech articles related to your ride and familiarize yourself a bit.
Probably wouldn't hurt take a look at what kind of shape your CV boots are on the front axle for the heck of it, esp if you're already looking to get the rig on YOUR maintenance schedule.
PS: Regarding the alternator, if there's an electric automotive rebuilder in your area, yank it and let them replace the brushes and stuff for you. That way you get to keep the OEM armature. I do this with my Toyota alternators and starters.

imo, get rid of the truck while it has value unfortunately there might not be much demand for it but can be traded for a another car/truck
might want to checkout planetisuzoo as its forum seems to get more traffic now
good luck

While I will submit, Isuzu's are not the easiest vehicles to work on, and some parts are hard to find and expensive when you do. I would have to point out, that any vehicle that you may end up with after trading the one in that you already have, may be in the same or worse condition. If you are at all interested in keeping it, I would suggest that you do. If you have specific problems that you would like help with just post up and the Zoo community will be happy to help.
