ARRL Asks Members to Write in Opposition to HR 607:

The ARRL is asking its members to contact their US representatives in opposition to the sections of HR 607 http://www.arrl.org/hr-607 that could affect the Amateur Radio Service allocation at 420-440 MHz. HR 607 -- The Broadband for First Responders Act of 2011 -- would address certain spectrum management issues, including the creation and maintenance of a nationwide Public Safety broadband network. It was introduced http://www.arrl.org/news/spectrum-management-bill-threatens-amateur-frequencies into the US House of Representatives February 10.

ARRL Regulatory Information Manager Dan Henderson, N1ND, clarified that the League opposes HR 607 in its present form. "We do not oppose the concept of dedicated spectrum for the development of a Public Safety infrastructure and wireless network. We object to the bill because of the inclusion of 420-440 MHz as part of the spectrum to be swapped and auctioned to commercial users." You can find a sample letter, "How to Find your Representative" and the contact information for ARRL's legislative consultant, Chwat & Co, here http://www.arrl.org/sample-letters.

It won't do any good for me to write mine, he's a co-sponsor. Just put in there too. He's an auctioneer, who graduated from auctioneer school after highschool. They guy has no grasp of coplex issues or how to appraoch them from an informed perspective. I said when he was running that he would simply aution of his vote to the highest bidder, and being a Republican, he won't be doing anything for commoners, but anything the corporations will want, he'll be running the price up and sell you out with the sound of his gavel!

We don't have a chance in the bandwidth wars, IMO.

If it passess and they make my radio useless, I believe that's the taking (by restricting the use) of property, so they need to buy our radios!!! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/patriot.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/butwiggle.gif" alt="" />
