Getting the Wheeling Fever
Aloha everyone. Been a while since I last posted. Wanted to get some opinions. I have a 1983 yota, 4wd., 5spd. I was having clutch pedal issues so I pulled the tranny today. Called local Checkers and they didn't have a tranny jack, so I moddified one. Check it out.

Don't laugh, it worked just fine....

So I got the tranny out and did some cleaning. Haven't gotten my parts yet....Wanted to see what your opinions are on replacement kits. Checkers had some brand I never heard of, but the price seemed right. The disc rivet dug into the flywheel so gotta do a re-grind.
So I noticed this oil leak a while ago. I found it was from the transfer case rear extension housing. There are two seals, 1 inner and 1 outer. I replaced these two no to long ago. I recently realized the leak is back. So I baffled. I attached a copy of the repair manual.....

So it seems the leak is coming from the rear output shaft and companion flange. When I removed my drive shaft, there was oil in flange? Should it be there? Am I missing a seal or o-ring?

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Oh, does any know where to get new bearing fork boot, shifter boot and transfer shifter boot? Unfortunately, they all crumbled when I touched it. Thanks.

Body Damage is Cool
Pull the output flange and lightly coat silicone n the splines. Re torque nut and stake it. No more leak!

Thanks for the response. Is it normal to have the oil hanging out in the flange area? If not, why wouldn't there be something oem to prevent it?

Well, there is a seal that rides on the outside of the flange coupling, but on the inside at the splines, there is nothing to keep the oil inside the case from escaping, aside from a tight fit, or some sealant. I learned the trick of applying some RTV to the splines when I took the flange off my Marlin-built t-case and silicone around the splines.

Thanks for the info. Got the silicone drying on output shaft splines. Got another question. I need to change the transfer case shifter boot. Is there an easy way to do this? It seems the shifter shaft is on some sort of rubber sleeve.

Thanks again!
