This last oil change noticed I was down 2qts. That was 2mo and about 3.5k ago.

There is no detectable leaks under the engine and no oil visible in coolant. No problems with how the engine is running and fuel mileage is unchanged.

Is it just burning it or is there someplace else I need to check. The odo says 409k, but the short block has about 300k on it amd the top end was done 18mo ago.

I'll keep a closer eye on the oil now, but wanted to know if there is something else I should be checking.

>>>*Morning!

*With the mileage you mention, that actually isn't bad.

What a lot of folks don't realize it that engines that never use any oil at all actually are using some, none of them are sealed perfectly although some are getting darned close to it with modern machining techniques.

There is always a small amount of blowby gasses, particularly during the startwarmup periods. Engines that see a lot of very short trips can build up particulate, fuel residue, etc, so the level stays fairly even.

This why sometimes an older engine will read full after many short trips, then hit the freeway for several hundred miles and suddenly she drops a quart or so. Just burning off the lighter volitiles is all that is.

Your description suggests rings getting a bit soft to me, but a quart to 1000+? My wife's last machine, a V-6 Camaro, used one quart to an oil change from the time it was new until we gave it away at 220,000 miles.

Now we have a new Impala SS, it does exactly the same thing.

Be happy, lots of guys would trade with you!....*EB
